A – Introduction

IE302-040Crime is on the rise, everywhere – nobody and nowhere is completely safe anymore.

Our belief at the Vine Mission Network is that education in crime awareness and avoidance leads to more personal safety and can lower crime rates.

Becoming a victim is not random, it is largely dependent on your lifestyle choices and behaviour. Criminals choose their victims.

The good news is that 90% of crime is opportunistic and therefore avoidable by simple proven measures and adjustments in your daily activities.

But you need to make a conscious choice for a safe(r) lifestyle. It is not only about what to do and what not to do in your daily actions. Unfortunately the biggest determining factor if you will become a victim or not is the company you keep and the lifestyle you choose; a very scriptural truth.

Start today and look at the potential risks in your choices and start on the path to lasting change.

Not everything in here might be applicable to your situation. Some advice might seem redundant and not at all fitting your lifestyle. However, your lifestyle is the biggest determining factor in your chances of becoming a victim of crime.

It is a proven fact, your lifestyle and the people you socialize with can and will make you a victim. Sometimes it is far worse; the company you keep and the situations you get yourself into, can and will make you a criminal. The choice is yours.

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men, Proverbs 4, 14 (NIV)

We were all made with a built-in compass for what is right and what is wrong. The right decisions in your life, turning away from the wrong people and the wrong situations, will make your life safer and productive.

So please try to use and implement as much as you can to stay safer. Also train and educate your family members/friends to ensure safety for all. You are responsible for your own personal safety, not the police, so stay observant and aware and maintain focus.

There is no reason to live in fear of crime and violence. There is however reason to take reasonable precautions. And in doing so, you will have deterred most criminals from choosing you as their victim. The harder you make it for the criminal to victimize you, the more likely he is to go ply his trade elsewhere. You won’t have stopped the criminal from being a criminal, but you will have stopped him from choosing you as a victim.
