G – Safe Dating

  1. Beware of blind (internet) dates, stay in a public place, let people know where and with whom you meet, if you can’t get enough info to feel safe from the person you want to meet,(Name, address, registration of car) don’t go.
  2. Don’t leave your drink unattended – there are many date rape drugs in use.
  3. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

    Matthew 19:26 NIV

Be suspicious and aware about dating and going out with friends and even family sometimes, more than 80% of rape victims know their attacker, date rape is most common and most rapes happen in the home of a friend or relative.

  1. When you feel uncomfortable in a situation, trust your instincts and leave or get help.
  2. When you mean “no,” say “NO.” Don’t allow room for misinterpretation by being ambiguous in your actions. Be firm. You should communicate your intentions and limits early.
  3. Don’t immediately trust a new friend. Remember, trust must be earned.
  4. Control the environment. You should be the one to choose or agree to the dating activity and location.
  5. Be alert to diminished awareness caused by alcohol and drugs. When you lose control because of impaired judgment, you give the advantage to a would-be assailant.
  6. Don’t allow others to violate your personal space.
  7. Always know where the exit is and let friends know where you are and check in regularly.

  1. Don’t go to fetes alone, always party with a group, stay together/leave together or stay home.
  2. Let family/friends know where you go and with whom.
  3. Have transport organized and a designated driver.
  4. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

    John 15:5 NIV

Don’t get drunk, don’t lose control, don’t use drugs

  1. Don’t accept drinks from strangers, don’t leave your drink unattended, date rape is very common and date rape drugs are often used, so always keep your drink with you and in sight, if in doubt or if your drink has a funny taste, throw it away and be alert/leave.
  2. Know your surroundings (exits, washrooms, emergency exits, safe/unsafe areas, car park).
  3. At outdoor fetes be alert when walking through unlit/less frequented areas, especially from/to car parks, toilets etc. Always walk with a friend and tell your group where you are going.
  4. Many rapes and crimes occur at parties, especially in homes of friends and families. The combination of music, alcohol, drugs, can be especially dangerous. Stay sober, aware and alert.
